Review 2013

I am a big fan of end of the year reviews. Although the new year has already started I thought that a little personal review was still appropriate. I got the questions from Katrin’s blog called “Reizende Rundungen”.

1. What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?

I moved in with my boyfriend.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I never had any big resolutions last year but for this year I want to be a bit more outgoing and less pessimistic.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Yes, my Grandpa.

5. What countries did you visit?

I went to Austria, England and Scotland.

6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?

As annoying as it sounds but my year was not bad at all. I didn’t feel that I was lacking anything… Could use more money, though. 😉

7. What dates from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

The 29th of September when I handed in my master’s thesis and thought that I was done with uni forever. The 30th of November when the Scotsman and me wanted to do something special for our anniversary and went to London.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Being asked back to uni by my professor to do a PhD and to teach English Literature and Culture.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Sucking at diets and saving money… What can I say: I’m a hedonist at heart.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Nothing apart from the odd cold now and then.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

My YSL Arty ring (down from 200 Euros to 40!)

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

The Scotsman’s for having survived all my Shakespeare-comments while in London.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled?

The behaviour of gossipy small-town people who walked up to our house on the day of my Grandpa’s death just to see whether the rumours were true.

14. Where did most of your money go?

I have discovered the world of beauty bloggers and vloggers this year and they made me buy all those lipsticks and face masks… And to balance out that female side of me, I spent the rest of my money on beer and whisky. 🙂

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Being asked to do my PhD which was so unexpected that I couldn’t stop crying for the next two hours.

16. What song will always remind you of 2013?

To be honest, I am not really a music person…

17. Compared to this time last year, are you: Happier or Sadder? Thinner of Fatter? Richer or Poorer?

Definitely happier. I think slightly thinner (I had lost some weight but then the mince pies and mulled wine crossed my way). Definitely poorer.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Reading. I definitely need to get into reading mode again (damn you, YouTube!!) and go back to reading stuff that has more than 140 characters.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

I would say, sit on YouTube but it was fun and you know… Hedonist 😉

20. How did you spend christmas?

Very nicely. Christmas eve with my family, christmas day with the Scotsman’s family watching horse racing in a pub (and winning 3 Euros!). Boxing day with a bucket of KFC (Don’t blame us!).

21. Did you fall in love in 2013?

I already fell in love in 2012 but the love definitely intensified hugely.

22. What was your favourite TV programme?

Although I am still in yesterday’s Sherlock haze, I will have to say Breaking Bad. Despite not liking it in the beginning and skipping episodes (that I have watched by now), the final season really convinced me.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate last year?

Thankfully not.

24. What was the best book you read?

You mean, out of the five I read? (Dear me… I really have to get my literary swag on again)

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Again: Not big on music.

26. What did you want and get?

A teaching job at uni (although it will only start next autumn)

27. What did you want and not get?

Tickets to see Jude Law as Henry V in London.

28. What was your favourite film of this year?

I can’t really remember whether I saw it in 2012 or in 2013 but I’ll have to go with Skyfall.

29. What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

And here comes the cheesiness. All romance-haters look away:

Coming home to someone waiting for me after work. (Warned ya!)

30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?

Pimping boring outfits with bright lips.

31. What kept you sane?

Who are you calling sane?

32. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Ryan Gosling for his looks. Jose Mourinho for his swag.

33. What political issue stirred you the most?

Everyday sexism. Something that is frequently downplayed but shouldn’t be.

34. Who did you miss?

All my friends that are not living in Nuremberg anymore.

35. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.

When applying cream eyeshadow always use a base!
